FREECYCLIN' FEELS SO GOOD

Picked up a possibly-broken record player last night! I think I can fix it and also, it is kind of gorgeous.  Maybe I will be fighting the urge to divert precious funds its way (via Normal’s, amiright) in the next week?

Plan: listen to Sambassadeur records under heavy blankets.

Oh gosh who wants to see Ecstatic Sunshine with me (or like sit in my room and listen to them while eating this black bean casserole I just made)

[Devendra Banhart tends to grate on me in the “contrived whimsy” sort of way, but this one’s catchyadorable enough to break down the Walls.  You amuse yourself, Devendra, and it is annoying as heck… but I like it this time.  I actually like it this time.]

Devendra Banhart, “Baby” (live)

Look out for dreams that keep returning
‘Cause magic ain’t no hand-me-down yearning
You gotta feel it, you gotta want it
The way I want you, babe, the way I want you

I wish there were a way to meet other people in Baltimore who are sick and don’t know what to do with themselves except languish in bed and read (but only for about a ten-minute stretch before they start doodling in the margins of their notebook by the bed; and that, of course, goes on for another five minutes, after which sneezing and taking another gulp of scalding tea becomes the main activity).  Or something.

The only photo I had the wherewithal to take from Soft Fest (i.e., a night of gorgeous music, cheap wine, and no shoes).  This is Liz Meredith & John Somers, playing amazing ambient music.
And I finally got to see Lands & Peoples! Incredible! Caleb and I initially met after I saved him from an unannounced bear attack; this was just the second/more memorable time.
Also: holysmokes Secret Mountains.  Haven’t had a chance to listen to their recorded work, but trust me, they are so, so excellent live.  Ughh I have crushes on all of them.

Parachutes, My Love, Could Carry Us Higher

I just said I didn’t know
And now you are holding me
In your arms,
How kind.
Parachutes, my love, could carry us higher.
Yet around the net I am floating
Pink and pale blue fish are caught in it,
They are beautiful,
But they are not good for eating.
Parachutes, my love, could carry us higher
Than this mid-air in which we tremble,
Having exercised our arms in swimming,
Now the suspension, you say,
Is exquisite. I do not know.
There is coral below the surface,
There is sand, and berries
Like pomegranates grow.
This wide net, I am treading water
Near it, bubbles are rising and salt
Drying on my lashes, yet I am no nearer
Air than water. I am closer to you
Than land and I am in a stranger ocean
Than I wished.
